Practices
Lavender Hill Farm is certified organic by the Washington State Department of Agriculture. Lavender is grown with a mixture of soil, sand, and organic compost, with a weed barrier to manage weeds and protect the plants. We rely on rainfall for irrigation and do not use any additional amendments after planting. Plants are replaced after 8-10 years, rotating planting areas to maintain a large number of mature plants. We house beehives on the property through the Vashon Island Bee Association, supporting the development of queen bees suited to the Pacific Northwest. The farm is managed by owner Cathy MacNeal and the farm crew consists of family and college interns who reside on the farm, receive a stipend and learn the basics of lavender growing and running a small business. Lavender Hill Farm has a booth at the Vashon Farmers Market during our growing season. We welcome groups for tours of the farm and special events.

Lavender Hill Farm is a member of the Vashon Island Growers Association and the Vashon-Maury Island Chamber of Commerce. We provide support for Voice of Vashon, Vashon Hub, and the Interfaith Council on Homelessness.
